Liam Rosenior opens up on Enzo Fernandez future after recent punishment

Liam Rosenior insists his relationship with Enzo Fernandez is in a ‘very good place’ following the midfielder’s turbulent situation at Chelsea.

Enzo Fernandez was the headline maker for Chelsea over the course of the international break, and perhaps even before that. The problems have shown in the Argentine World Cup midfielder, as he has not committed to anything at Chelsea for the future.

There has been speculation that he is open to joining Real Madrid during the summer, with the Spanish giants certainly interested in the midfielder. He has been repeatedly asked about the La Liga giants, and he has not categorically refused anything, instead stating how much he loves the city of Madrid as a place.

While Fernandez has made a variety of comments over the past few weeks, he has never explicitly mentioned a desire to leave Chelsea or join Real Madrid. There might be an ambition to play at the Santiago Bernabeu, and should Chelsea fail to qualify for the Champions League, he might even consider a departure — but at the moment, nothing has been said or agreed.

However, in light of the pressure placed on Chelsea following Fernandez’s comments in the media, Liam Rosenior decided to suspend the midfielder for two games. He has already missed the Port Vale encounter and will miss out against Manchester City next weekend.

Despite all the turbulent issues surrounding Fernandez, Chelsea, and to an extent Rosenior, the manager insisted his relationship with Fernandez is in a ‘very good place’. Rosenior’s comments appeared on Sky Sports, where he insisted things aren’t what they seem.

Rosenior said, “Me and Enzo are in a very good place. I saw him today Saturday. I had a really good conversation with him on a one-to-one. Things aren’t what people maybe think they are.”

Fernandez’s agent criticised the club’s decision over the player’s suspension, and when asked about this, Rosenior responded, “That’s his opinion. I don’t have anything to say about someone else’s opinion.

“Enzo knows what I think of him, and it was brilliant to see him here to support the players today. We’ll move forward and make sure we have a really good run-in to the season.”

Do those comments from Rosenior hamper Real Madrid’s chances of landing Fernandez? Probably so. Recent reports have stated that Chelsea are prepared to offer the midfielder a new deal that could be close to the player’s demands.

Moreover, Real Madrid are reportedly unwilling to spend big on Fernandez, amid suggestions of a nine-figure asking rate from Chelsea. The Blues might be open to a sale at the right price, although they are not eager to take a hit on the player’s book value, which could see them demand significantly from suitors.
