Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes has given the green light to the Sandro Tonali move; the Italian midfielder has a gentleman’s agreement with Newcastle United.
Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for Sandro Tonali in recent weeks. The Italian international might have years left on his deal with the Tyneside club, but he could still be on the move this summer.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes has already approved the move. He is in support of the club going after his signature. Tonali has done wonders for Newcastle United over the years, and he could become one of the cornerstones of the new project at Old Trafford going forward.
The 25-year-old defensive midfielder remains one of the first names on the Magpies’ team sheet under Eddie Howe. The former AC Milan midfielder has been involved in 47 matches this term, and he has even contributed towards 10 goals. Tonali is right up there with the very best in his position.
Not only is he exceptional in winning back the ball, but he is also great in playing the role of a deep-lying playmaker. Every top club in England has been linked with the Italian international. Arsenal are one of the clubs that are keen on his signature as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his midfield rotation.
But it seems Manchester United have moved to the front of the queue in recent weeks. With Casemiro leaving and Manuel Ugarte likely to be sold, the Red Devils are looking to revamp their midfield in the summer as they prepare for Casemiro’s impending departure as a free agent. They have a shortlist of three targets, and Sandro Tonali is believed to be their priority.
Tonali could be allowed to leave Newcastle United
Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes has already given the green light to the move, and they have started working behind the scenes. Sandro Tonali’s contract runs until 2028, and Newcastle have the option to extend it by another 12 months, which gives them the upper hand in negotiations.
However as per a report from Shields Gazette, there is a gentleman’s agreement between the two parties, which could lead to a departure this summer. If the Magpies fail to qualify for Europe next season, they will consider offers for the 25-year-old as per the agreement.
While the Italian midfielder was untouchable until last season, things have changed, and with the Magpies 12th in the Premier League, a departure looks very likely. The gentleman’s agreement certainly helps United in their pursuit of the Italian international.
Tonali might not be pushing for an exit; his agent has talked about his future in the recent past, which suggests both parties could finally part ways this summer.
