Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City vying for Pau Cubarsi

Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City are reportedly keen on signing 19-year-old Spanish international Pau Cubarsi in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Caught Offside, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City are interested in Pau Cubarsi. The three Premier League giants are keen on reinforcing their defensive units by signing a centre-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 19-year-old Barcelona wonderkid has emerged as a target for them.

How has Pau Cubarsi as a senior Barcelona star?

Pau Cubarsi has added to Barcelona’s rice and fabled lineage of academy graduates to become a pivotal figure for the first-team squad. The Catalan giants have had to rely on academy talent and cost-effective signings due to their ongoing financial issues, particularly over the last half-decade, and the Spaniard has capitalised on that opportunity alongside Alejandro Balde, Gavi, and Lamine Yamal.

The 19-year-old has been ever-present at the heart of the Barcelona defence this season, amassing over 3,000 minutes of game time in 39 appearances thus far. Meanwhile, the Spanish centre-back prodigy’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

A man in demand

Arsenal’s interest in the Barcelona wonderkid is perplexing. Mikel Arteta has a stacked central defensive unit in his squad, with William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes being two of the world’s best centre-backs. Additionally, Cristhian Mosquera, Piero Hincapie, and Riccardo Calafiori are solid backup options for the two spots.

Meanwhile, Pau Cubarsi has been on Chelsea’s wishlist for a long time. The continued interest is understandable, as the Blues want a long-term central defensive partner for Levi Colwill. Additionally, Chelsea will sell Axel Disasi in the summer transfer window, making Cubarsi a viable target.

As for Manchester City, John Stones has entered the final six months of his contract, compelling the club to scour the market for a centre-back. Additionally, Nathan Ake will likely depart from the Etihad in the summer transfer window. So, Cubarsi is an option worth considering for Manchester City.

Apart from the three Premier League clubs, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are also keen on signing Cubarsi. However, a summer move away from Barcelona will be shocking, considering the 19-year-old Spanish international is a mainstay at the back for the Blaugrana.
