Inter Milan will reportedly look to sign 33-year-old Brazilian international Alisson Becker from Liverpool to replace Yann Sommer in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, Alisson Becker is the subject of interest from Inter Milan. The Serie A table-toppers are eager to bolster their first-team squad by signing a world-class goalkeeper in the summer transfer window as they look for a replacement for Yann Sommer. So, the 33-year-old Liverpool mainstay has emerged as a target for the Nerazzurri.
However, the report has brought bad news for Inter Milan, as the veteran goalkeeper “seems inclined to remain at the club” beyond the summer transfer window. While the South American shot-stopper is open to leaving as a free agent next year, he will push to remain in the Premier League to retain his current €6 million-a-year wages.
How has Alisson Becker fared at Liverpool?
Alisson Becker has been arguably the world’s best goalkeeper since joining Liverpool from AS Roma in a deal worth €62.5 million in July 2018. The 33-year-old has made substantial progress in the last seven and a half years, having been a mainstay between the sticks for his club and country.
The Brazilian international has made nearly 350 appearances thus far for Liverpool while keeping 139 clean sheets and conceding 304 goals. Meanwhile, the player’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Inter Milan will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Serie A return on the horizon?
Inter Milan’s interest in Alisson Becker is understandable. The Serie A title hopefuls are combing the market for a world-class goalkeeper heading into the summer transfer window, as Yann Sommer has entered the final six months of his contract and is likely to depart from San Siro as a free agent after the 2025/26 season. Several candidates, including Guglielmo Vicario, have thus emerged on Inter’s wishlist, with the Liverpool stopper also a viable target.
While the Liverpool mainstay is on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the twilight of his career, he is still at the top of his game, making him an appealing target for Inter Milan. So, the veteran goalkeeper has emerged as a target for the Nerazzurri heading into the summer transfer window, with other Serie A clubs like Juventus also showing interest in him.
However, a summer move will not materialise, as Alisson “seems inclined to remain at the club” beyond the summer transfer window. While the 33-year-old Brazilian international is open to leaving Liverpool as a free agent next year, he will push to remain in the Premier League to retain his current €6 million-a-year wages. Meanwhile, recent reports have claimed that the Reds have no interest in parting ways with the player this summer.
