Aston Villa have received a massive boost as AS Roma are ready to pay €25 million to make Donyell Malen’s move permanent.
According to a report from Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, AS Roma are delighted with the impact Donyell Malen has had since joining them on loan from Aston Villa. They have already decided to make his move permanent, irrespective of whether they secure UEFA Champions League football or not.
Malen made quite a name for himself while playing for Borussia Dortmund. On the back of his impressive performances, Aston Villa secured his services at the start of 2025. While he had a promising start to life at Villa Park, the Netherlands international did not have a prominent role in the team under Emery this season.
After struggling to get regular minutes, the 27-year-old ended up leaving the West Midlands club in the winter transfer window. Donyell Malen joined AS Roma on loan in search of a prominent role to strengthen his chances of making it to the Dutch squad for the World Cup.
The move has certainly worked out in his favour as he featured in seven league games and has bagged six goals. AS Roma are delighted with the impact the versatile Dutch striker has had. While he prefers playing up top, he is equally effective on the flanks.
Malen to join AS Roma permanently
Thanks to Donyell Malen’s exceptional performances, AS Roma have now decided to make the move permanent. They already have a conditional purchase obligation in his contract, which states that the move shall become permanent if they secure Champions League football.
The Serie A giants are currently fifth on the Premier League table and are not certain to finish inside the top four. However, that won’t have any impact on Malen’s future. The Giallorossi are pleased with the 27-year-old’s performances and are ready to pay the €25 million to Aston Villa to make the move permanent irrespective of whether the clause comes into effect.
Gian Piero Gasperini wants the Dutchman around, and AS Roma are doing everything they can to make it happen. Meanwhile, it is a massive boost for Aston Villa, who were looking to cash in on the versatile Dutch attacker, as he is no longer a part of their long-term plans. Villa will receive €25 million and will retain 10% on his future sales.
