Liverpool and Newcastle United are reportedly keen on signing 28-year-old Colombian international Luis Suarez from Sporting CP in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Liverpool and Newcastle United are interested in Luis Suarez. The two Premier League giants are eager to bolster their offensive units by signing a striker in the summer transfer window. So, the 28-year-old Sporting CP centre-forward has emerged as a target for them.
The latest report has brought good news for Newcastle United, as the Magpies are “in a better position” in the battle for Suarez’s signature. As for Liverpool, the Reds are “considering several alternatives and don’t see him as their only option” heading into the summer transfer window.
How has Luis Suarez fared at Sporting CP?
Luis Suarez has been one of the world’s most prolific strikers since joining Sporting CP from UD Almeria last summer. Born in Santa Marta, the 28-year-old spent his formative years in Colombia and graduated from the youth division at Itagua Leones FC. Since then, the South American striker has represented clubs in Spain, England, and France before arriving in Portugal in July 2025.
The Colombian international has been a natural fit at Sporting CP, scoring 29 goals and providing six assists in 37 appearances across all competitions thus far in the 2025/26 season. Meanwhile, Suarez’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Liverpool and Newcastle United are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature going into the summer transfer window.
Premier League adventure beckons?
Liverpool’s interest in Luis Suarez is surprising. However, widespread reports have linked the Reds with several strikers, even though they signed Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak last summer. The Premier League champions should instead invest in a wide attacker, a centre-back, and a midfielder, considering Arne Slot has two top-notch centre-forwards in his squad.
As for Newcastle United, the Tyneside outfit also signed two strikers last summer. However, Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa have failed to make their mark in the 2025/26 season, compelling the Magpies to return to the market for a striker. Additionally, recent reports have linked Woltemade with a move away from Newcastle United.
