Chelsea ready to pay £50 million for Bart Verbruggen

Chelsea are ready to fork out £50 million to beat Newcastle and Tottenham to the signature of Brighton shot-stopper Bart Verbruggen.

Chelsea are looking to add more quality in goal, and they have their eyes set on Bart Verbruggen. According to a report from TEAMtalk, the Blues are willing to meet Brighton’s demands to sign the Dutch goalkeeper, who has only gone from strength to strength since moving to the Premier League.

After making a name for himself at Anderlecht, he joined the Seagulls in the summer of 2023. Not only has he established himself as their undisputed number one, but he is also widely regarded as one of the best young goalkeepers in the world.

The Dutch international’s impressive performances in goal have resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe. Clubs were keen on signing him last summer as well, but he was not ready to make a move. However, that is no longer the case. With just two years left on his deal, he is now ready to take the next step in his career.

Premier League trio wants Verbruggen

Chelsea, Newcastle and Tottenham are the biggest contenders for his signature. The North London club want a reliable option for goal, and even the Magpies want to bolster that position. Both clubs have had him on their radar for some time, but their inability to guarantee Champions League football is one of the major reasons why they are behind the Blues at this stage.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are ready to push hard for his signature, as Liam Rosenior seeks more competition for the inconsistent Robert Sanchez. They initially had their eyes on Mike Maignan and were looking to snap him up on a free transfer. But he ended up signing a new deal at AC Milan. As a result, the London club are looking elsewhere, and Verbruggen has emerged as a priority target going forward.

The London club are prepared to match the Seagulls’ price tag of £50 million, as they look to beat both Newcastle and Tottenham to his signature. With UCL football and an offer this big, Chelsea should be able to land him next summer.
