Tottenham contemplate summer move for Antonio Silva

Tottenham Hotspur may look to sign 22-year-old Portuguese international Antonio Silva from Primeira Liga club SL Benfica in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Antonio Silva is the subject of interest of Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites are eager to bolster their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 22-year-old SL Benfica defender has emerged as a target for the North London outfit.

The latest report has suggested that while the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League winners are not concerned about the futures of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Luka Vuskovic, they have kept their options open heading into the summer transfer window. So, the Viseu native is one of four centre-backs on Tottenham’s wishlist.

How has Antonio Silva fared in his career so far?

Antonio Silva has established himself as one of the best young defensive prospects in the world since breaking into the first-team squad at SL Benfica. Born in Viseu, the 22-year-old began his youth career in his hometown but graduated from the fabled academy at SL Benfica. He has been a regular for SL Benfica in the last few seasons, although he has been in and out of the starting lineup in recent seasons.

Nevertheless, Silva has made over 150 appearances for Benfica thus far while chipping in with nine goals and three assists. Meanwhile, the Portuguese defender’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Tottenham Hotspur will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

London calling?

Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Antonio Silva is understandable. The Lilywhites are combing the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window, as while they are not fretting about the long-term futures of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Luka Vuskovic, they have kept their options open heading into the summer transfer window.

Additionally, Radu Dragusin’s long-term future is uncertain after after being eager to seal a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the winter transfer window. Several candidates, including Aitor Paredes, have thus emerged on the North London club’s radar, with Silva also a viable target.

However, the SL Benfica prospect is not the only centre-back on Tottenham’s wishlist, as they are also interested in Murillo, Joel Ordonez, and Charlie Cresswell. It will be interesting to see if the 22-year-old Portuguese international arrives at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer transfer window.
