Chelsea revive move for Samu Aghehowa, summer move on

Chelsea are set to revive their interest in Samu Aghehowa and plan on making an approach this summer to further strengthen their frontline.

According to Fichajes, Samu Aghehowa is a player who is still high on Chelsea’s shortlist of future targets. The 21-year-old Spanish international is seen as one of the ideal candidates for their attacking setup, as his goalscoring number is likely to justify a large investment.

Some might remember Chelsea failed to sign Samu Aghehowa despite agreeing on a fee with Atletico Madrid back in 2024. Back then, there were some complications either with the paperwork or his medical examination, which then saw the Olympic gold medalist join FC Porto.

The Portuguese side initially signed part of his rights, but over time, they have reportedly acquired the player completely from Atletico Madrid. Now, they are in a strong position to negotiate a decent fee, close to his mammoth release clause, as there is plenty of interest being garnered owing to the Spaniard’s impressive goalscoring record.

Tottenham are one of those thinking about the striker, while Chelsea are also ready to revive their interest in the 21-year-old striker. The West London outfit are continuing to build a young project and are constantly on the lookout for top talent from around.

The fact is that Aghehowa was indeed close to joining the Blues a couple of summers ago, and they see his goalscoring numbers and profile as a perfect match for their squad. It remains to be seen how much Chelsea are willing to pay, as FC Porto will not let the young Spaniard leave on the cheap at all costs.

Outgoing strikers at Chelsea?

Should Chelsea manage to bring Samu Aghehowa next summer, there could be a few changes to the squad about existing forwards. For instance, Marc Guiu is not being favoured and certainly one to leave, but there is possibly the idea for Liam Delap’s departure too.

Delap has not performed to the required levels despite showing plenty of promise last season in the league with Ipswich Town. Should someone like Samu arrive, it could mark the end for Delap at Stamford Bridge, given the two strikers are very similar in their profiles.
