Real Madrid rekindle Leny Yoro interest

Real Madrid will reportedly look to sign 20-year-old French defender Leny Yoro from Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Leny Yoro is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Spanish giants are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing at least one centre-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 20-year-old Manchester United defensive sensation has emerged as a target for Los Blancos.

The report has suggested that the Red Devils “have not officially declared Yoro available for transfer” heading into the summer transfer window. However, Manchester United may be willing to listen to “significant offers” of around €70 million. As for Real Madrid’s interest, the Merengues believe the Frenchman “fits perfectly into [their] sporting strategy” for the long run.

How has Leny Yoro fared at Manchester United?

Leny Yoro has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Manchester United from LOSC Lille in a deal worth €62 million in July 2024. Born in Saint-Maurice, the youngster spent his formative years in France and graduated from the youth division at LOSC Lille. The 20-year-old became one of the most sought-after centre-backs in the world after enjoying his breakthrough at the Ligue 1 club before Manchester United secured his services.

Yoro has made over 50 appearances for Manchester United thus far while chipping in with one goal and two assists. While the French defender has been in and out of the starting lineup in the last 18 months, his stock remains high. Real Madrid will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

La Liga adventure on the horizon?

Real Madrid wanted to sign Leny Yoro from LOSC Lille before he joined Manchester United. The continued interest is understandable, as the Merengues are scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window. Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba are on the wrong side of 30, while Eder Militao has struggled with fitness issues in recent seasons.

Several candidates, including Ibrahima Konate, have thus emerged on Real Madrid’s wishlist, with Yoro also a viable target. However, a summer move may not be straightforward, as the Frenchman is not on Manchester United’s transfer list, although they may reluctantly accept bids worth around €70 million.

The report has suggested that the Merengues believe the Frenchman “fits perfectly into [their] sporting strategy” for the long run. However, it is unclear if Real Madrid will pay €70 million to sign the 20-year-old French defender from Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
