Arsenal failed with late January move for Brahim Diaz

Arsenal reportedly failed with a late approach for Brahim Diaz as Real Madrid shut the door on any potential departure.

According to Africa Foot, Arsenal reportedly failed with a late move for Brahim Diaz in January. Real Madrid seemingly shut the door on any departure of the Moroccan international, who is viewed as important to their plans in the current moment.

The January window was more of a drab affair since not many big clubs opened their chequebooks to get players in. Apart from Manchester City, none of the big English sides made any efforts to sign players, although Arsenal were rumoured to get into the act late on.

The serious injury to Mikel Merino might see the midfielder miss out on the remainder of the campaign, and given how important he has been for Arsenal, playing multiple roles, the club might have considered a replacement. Late links to Sandro Tonali came to nothing, while Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka was also considered, as per a few reports.

However, in what may come as a surprise, Arsenal failed with a late move for Brahim Diaz, as per the report. The Gunners did hold an interest in the attacking midfielder, but not many expected them to make a move for the Real Madrid utility man, considering how strong the north Londoners are in his position, either as a No.10 or on the wings.

Aston Villa were also keen on Diaz in the window, but they might have known Real Madrid’s intention on the Moroccan. The Spanish giants closed the door for a potential departure of the utility man and view him as a key rotational part of their team for the remainder of the season at the very least.

Will Brahim Diaz leave in the summer?

Currently, Diaz is not a sure starter and often plays as a rotational option in different positions. With the Moroccan coming into an age where he might seek an important role either at the Bernabeu or elsewhere, which could see the Real Madrid utility man seek an exit in the summer.

Like Arsenal, there will be a host of top teams, particularly from the Premier League, angling to sign Diaz should he become available. The summer window will be an interesting watch as far as the Moroccan is concerned, as he could depart the Bernabeu for a key role elsewhere.
