Leeds United view Eduard Spertsyan as top summer target, need to be inventive to seal deal

Leeds United retain an interest in Armenian captain Eduard Spertsyan, with a creative solution being formulated to sign him next summer.

According to TEAMtalk, Leeds United are trying to find a creative solution to get top summer target Eduard Spertsyan to the club. The Armenian national team captain and Russian Premier League star may not get a straightforward route to England, with Leeds United not likely to be the only team in the mix.

Eduard Spertsyan has been one of the standout performers in the Russian Premier League with Krasnodar, with 22 goal contributions to his name this season. There have been ample rumours linking the attacking midfielder with a move away and to another big club in the near future.

The political complications owing to the sanctions issued by the UK government have prevented Leeds United from signing him. Daniel Farke’s side considered a last-gasp move in the winter transfer window,  but given the restrictions placed, any move was virtually impossible.

Eduard Spertsyan is thought to be open to leaving Krasnodar in the summer, with Leeds United still mentioned as suitors. In fact, the Whites view the 25-year-old playmaker as a priority target, and they will have to find a way to get a deal done.

There are suggestions that they could use their connection with the Red Bull Football Group to sort out a deal. Whether that is feasible remains to be seen, but they may have to find an inventive way to get a deal for the Armenian international in place.

How can Leeds United sign Spertsyan?

Current UK sanctions effectively lock out English clubs from signing players from Russia or their league. However, there are certain countries like France, Portugal and Turkey that may not have restrictions on signing players from Russia, which is where Red Bull might come into the equation.

For instance, Red Bull have a stake in Leeds United, and the same goes for French side Paris FC. This could allow the West Yorkshire outfit to use Red Bull to acquire the player for another one of their clubs and then facilitate a move to Elland Road in the near future. This procedure might be a bit more tedious than usual, but it is one way to get a player from the Russian league.
