Chelsea, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Tottenham have all failed in their pursuit of French sensation Mohamed Kader Meite.
Mohamed Kader Meite’s sensational rise in French football had placed him on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in the world. Multiple Premier League clubs were after his signature, but according to a report from TEAMtalk, Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal have beaten the competition to his signature.
Chelsea, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Tottenham have all failed to beat the Middle East club. It is an eye-catching coup from Al-Hilal, and their boss, Simone Inzaghi, has reportedly played a massive role in the transfer.
Meite joined Stade Rennais in the summer of 2022. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to the first team towards the end of 2024. He has only gone from strength to strength over the last 14 or so months.
He has slowly gained prominence in the French club. This season, he has been involved in 19 matches, racked up over 600 minutes and has contributed towards five goals (3 goals, 2 assists). The French youth international’s contract runs until the summer of 2028, but multiple top clubs have been after his signature.
Premier League clubs beaten in Meite chase
As a result, Stade Rennais have struggled to keep hold of him. Chelsea, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Tottenham are all interested in the teenage attacking sensation. All four Premier League clubs have sent scouts to watch him in action in recent weeks.
United scouts had watched him in action on multiple occasions, but they never really made a move, and it seems to have cost them big time. While they were preparing to secure his services ahead of next season, Al-Hilal have moved quickly and struck a deal with the teenager.
He has agreed to move to Saudi Arabia, which means the Premier League giants have lost out on an exceptional young talent. Not only did they have a higher package on the table, but Inzaghi’s direct intervention also convinced the player about the move. Following talks with the Italian manager, he is optimistic that a move to Al-Hilal will fast-track his development.
