Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly look to sign 23-year-old Spanish left-back Hugo Bueno from relegation-threatened Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers this month.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Hugo Bueno is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a left-back in the winter transfer window. So, the 23-year-old Wolverhampton Wanderers wide player has emerged as a target for the North London club.
The 2024/25 UEFA Europa League winners have been close to signing Andrew Robertson from Liverpool this week. However, the latest reports have revealed that the Reds have called off the Scot’s exit, compelling Tottenham to look elsewhere. Meanwhile, Everton may also push to sign Bueno from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
How has Hugo Bueno fared at Wolverhampton Wanderers?
Hugo Bueno has made significant progress since joining Wolverhampton Wanderers from CD Areosa in July 2019. A native of Vigo, the 23-year-old spent most of his formative years in Spain, passing through the academies at ED Val Miñor and CD Areosa. However, the Spaniard graduated from the youth division at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Bueno has endured a topsy-turvy ride since breaking into the first-team squad at the Black Country outfit, but he has been a regular this season. The Spanish wide player has made over 50 appearances for Wolverhampton Wanderers thus far while chipping in with one goal and two assists. Meanwhile, the youngster’s exploits this season have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several clubs, including Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.
Move across the Premier League on the cards?
Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Hugo Bueno makes sense. The Lilywhites have been scouring the market for a left-back heading into the winter transfer window, even though they have already signed Souza from Santos. Andrew Robertson thus emerged as a target for Tottenham, and they have been closing in on securing his services. However, with Liverpool calling off the deal, Bueno has emerged as an alternative.
As for Everton, Vitaliy Mykolenko has been solid during his spell with the Merseyside outfit. However, Adam Aznou has been a backup player for Everton since arriving from Bayern Munich last summer. But unless the Toffees cash in on one left-back, it is unclear why Bueno is a target for them.
Nevertheless, Everton will compete with Tottenham for the 23-year-old Spaniard’s signature. Meanwhile, Bueno wants to continue playing for a top-flight club, and a move away from Wolverhampton Wanderers may be on the cards.
