Lazio’s offer to sign 22-year-old English midfielder Tim Iroegbunam has failed, with the Merseyside club reportedly also rejecting a bid from an unnamed club.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Tim Iroegbunam is the subject of interest from Lazio. The Young Eagles are eager to bolster their first-team squad by signing a versatile midfielder in the winter transfer window. So, the 22-year-old Everton prospect has emerged as a target for the Biancocelesti.
The latest update has revealed that Lazio’s opening bid has failed, although it suggests that the offer to Everton was not worth the reported £15 million. Additionally, the Toffees have rejected a proposal by an unnamed club. It is unclear if the Serie A club will return with another proposition.
How has Tim Iroegbunam fared at Everton?
Tim Iroegbunam has had to bide his time since joining Everton from Aston Villa in July 2024. The Birmingham-born midfielder spent his formative years in the Midlands, starting his youth career with Sutton United before representing West Bromwich Albion at the age-group level for a decade.
The English midfield prospect graduated from the youth division at Aston Villa, but he could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad at Villa Park. Meanwhile, the 22-year-old has made gradual progress at Everton, making nearly 50 appearances thus far while chipping in with five assists. Meanwhile, Iroegbunam’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs, including Lazio.
Serie A move on the horizon?
Lazio’s interest in Tim Iroegbunam makes sense. The Serie A outfit will attempt to sign a midfielder in the final week of the winter transfer window after scouring the market for one in recent weeks. While Maurizio Sarri has a stacked midfield unit in his squad, he can do with more options in the middle of the park for the long run.
Several candidates have thus emerged on Lazio’s wishlist, with Iroegbunam also a viable target. Recent reports have claimed that they have submitted a bid worth £15 million to sign the 22-year-old Englishman in the winter transfer window. However, Everton did not accept Lazio’s opening offer, although the proposal was not worth £15 million.
Meanwhile, the Toffees have also rejected a bid by an unnamed club, and it is unclear if his suitors will return with improved offers. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the English midfield prospect.
