Borussia Dortmund front-runners to sign Oscar Bobb

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly ahead of Crystal Palace in the race to sign Manchester City attacking sensation Oscar Bobb.

Oscar Bobb’s future has become a massive talking point. The Norwegian winger could be on the move in the ongoing transfer window, and multiple top clubs are ready to battle it out for the Manchester City sensation.

Crystal Palace and Borussia Dortmund are two of the leading candidates to sign the 22-year-old. According to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, the Bundesliga giants are ahead of the Eagles in their pursuit of his signature.

Oscar Bobb joined Manchester City’s youth setup in the summer of 2019, and he has only gone from strength to strength since. He got promoted to their first team in the summer of 2023. So far, he has been involved in 47 matches and has contributed towards seven goals.

The youngster has racked up 739 minutes of first-team action in his 15 appearances so far. The right-winger is struggling to get enough game time under Pep Guardiola, and following the arrival of Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth, he goes further down the pecking order.

Bobb to leave Manchester City in January?

While his contract runs until 2029, Oscar Bobb is seriously considering leaving the Manchester-based giants in search of a more prominent role, as he wants to be at his best heading into a potential World Cup campaign with Norway.

Meanwhile, Manchester City seem willing to sanction his departure on an initial loan this month, and there could be an option to make the move permanent. Crystal Palace and Borussia Dortmund are both chasing his signature.

Oliver Glasner’s team lack quality in the final third, and a versatile player like Bobb could certainly help their cause. While Crystal Palace are eyeing a move in this window, they are not his only suitors. Pete O’Rourke has suggested that Dortmund have leapfrogged them in the race to sign the 22-year-old.

O’Rourke’s take on Oscar Bobb’s future

While speaking about Bobb’s future, he said, “I’d probably say Borussia Dortmund are favourites for him. If they can agree a deal with Manchester City, whether that’s a loan with an option to sign, I think that’s probably the most likely avenue for Oscar Bobb to leave.

“If everybody’s fit at Manchester City, he’s probably not going to get too many minutes at City, so it would probably suit all parties if he was to move on.“

While Crystal Palace could be an interesting destination for Bobb, given their track record of developing young players, Borussia Dortmund might be a more attractive option, as they regularly feature in the Champions League. The Bundesliga club are the front-runners at this stage, but in the end, it might depend on the role offered and the player’s desire.
