Manchester United have funds available to sign Ruben Neves

Manchester United will reportedly have enough funds to sign 28-year-old Portuguese international Ruben Neves from Al-Hilal in the winter transfer window.

According to a report by The Guardian, Ruben Neves is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen on bolstering their first-team squad by signing a versatile midfielder this year. So, the 28-year-old Al-Hilal midfielder has emerged as a target for them.

The latest report has revealed that Manchester United will have enough funds to sign the Santa Maria da Feira native, with the Saudi Pro League club demanding £20 million to sell him in the winter transfer window. However, a report by Fichajes has revealed that Neves wants to join Real Madrid, although Los Blancos will only secure his services on “very favourable terms” this month.

How has Ruben Neves fared at Al-Hilal?

Ruben Neves has been one of the best players in the Saudi Pro League since completing a shock move to Al-Hilal from Wolverhampton Wanderers in July 2023. The 28-year-old has been top-class for the Blue Waves, winning nearly half a dozen trophies, including the Saudi Pro League title, with the club.

The Portuguese international has made over 100 appearances thus far for Al-Hilal while chipping in with 16 goals and 27 assists. However, Neves faces an uncertain future at the Saudi Pro League club, as he has entered the final six months of his contract. The situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Manchester United will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Manchester United’s interest in Ruben Neves makes sense. The Red Devils have been combing the market for a versatile midfielder heading into the winter transfer window, as Casemiro is on the wrong side of 30. Additionally, Manuel Ugarte has failed to make their mark since joining Manchester United from Paris Saint-Germain 18 months ago. So, Neves has emerged as a viable target for Manchester United.

However, the former Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder is keen on joining Real Madrid. While Alvaro Arbeloa has a stacked midfield unit, Dani Ceballos faces an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu. So, Neves is an option worth considering for Real Madrid. However, Los Blancos will only pursue the Al-Hilal midfielder on “very favourable terms” this month.

While Neves is keen on joining Real Madrid, a deal will not materialise unless he compels Al-Hilal to terminate his contract. Meanwhile, Manchester United will have enough funds to afford a deal worth £20 million to secure the 28-year-old Portuguese midfielder’s services this month. So, that is a favourable situation for Al-Hilal, and it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the £20 million-rated midfielder.
