Crystal Palace rival Newcastle United in Kevin Danois chase

Crystal Palace will reportedly compete with Newcastle United in the race to sign 21-year-old French midfielder Kevin Danois from Ligue 1 club AJ Auxerre.

According to a report by the Daily Mail, Kevin Danois is the subject of interest of Crystal Palace. The Eagles are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a versatile midfielder in the winter transfer window. So, the 21-year-old AJ Auxerre midfield prospect has emerged as a target for the South London club.

However, the 2024/25 FA Cup winners are not alone in the battle for the Frenchman’s signature, as he is also a target for Newcastle United. Meanwhile, it is unclear if the Ligue 1 outfit will sanction Danois’s departure in the winter transfer window.

Who is Kevin Danois?

Kevin Danois has established himself as one of the most promising young midfielders in Ligue 1 since breaking into the first-team squad at AJ Auxerre. Born in Basse-Terre, the 21-year-old began his youth career with La Gauloise de Basse-Terre before joining AJ Auxerre in 2019. The youngster made his senior bow for the Ligue 1 club midway through the 2022/23 season, and he has become a regular since then.

The French youth international has made over 50 appearances thus far for AJ Auxerre while chipping in with three goals and one assist. Meanwhile, Danois’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Crystal Palace and Newcastle United are among the prospective suitors vying for the young midfielder’s signature in the winter transfer window.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Newcastle United’s interest in Kevin Danois makes sense. The Magpies are scouring the market for a versatile midfielder, as Joe Willock faces an uncertain future at St. James’ Park. The English midfielder will likely leave Newcastle United in the winter transfer window. Additionally, Joelinton may not remain at St. James’ Park beyond the 2025/26 season. So, Danois is a viable target for the Tyneside outfit.

As for Crystal Palace, the Eagles are in a spot of bother due to fitness issues plaguing the squad. Daichi Kamada and Cheick Doucoure are long-term absentees for the South London outfit, leaving Oliver Glasner short on midfield options. Several candidates, including Joao Gomes, have thus emerged on Crystal Palace’s wishlist, with Danois also an option worth considering.

However, it is unclear if AJ Auxerre will sanction the 21-year-old French midfielder’s departure in the winter transfer window. It will be interesting to see if Danois arrives in the Premier League midway through the 2025/26 season amid his links with Crystal Palace and Newcastle United.
