West Ham United will reportedly look to sign 26-year-old Polish midfielder Sebastian Szymanski from Turkish Super Lig outfit Fenerbahce next year.
According to an update by Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Sebastian Szymanski is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are eager to reinforce their first-team squad by signing a versatile midfielder in the coming weeks. So, the 26-year-old Fenerbahce midfielder has emerged as a target for the East London outfit.
However, West Ham will not be alone in the race to sign Szymanski, as Lyon, Brighton & Hove Albion, Napoli, Lazio, Bayer Leverkusen, Eintracht Frankfurt, VfB Stuttgart, and RB Leipzig are also vying for his signature. Additionally, PSV Eindhoven will aim to sign the Pole on loan in the winter transfer window as they prepare to part ways with Joey Veerman.
How has Sebastian Szymanski fared in Turkiye?
Sebastian Szymanski has seen his stock skyrocket since joining Fenerbahce from Dynamo Moscow in July 2023. A native of Biała Podlaska, the 25-year-old spent his formative years in Poland and graduated from the youth division at Legia Warszawa. However, he struggled for stability after leaving Poland in 2019.
Szymanski was excellent in his debut season, and he has been productive for Fenerbahce since then. The Polish international has made nearly 150 appearances thus far for the Turkish outfit, while chipping in with 22 goals and 30 assists. Meanwhile, his progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. West Ham United will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature next year.
London calling?
West Ham United’s interest in Sebastian Szymanski is understandable. The Hammers are scouring the market for a versatile midfielder heading into the winter transfer window, as James Ward-Prowse has no future at the London Stadium. Additionally, Guido Rodriguez may leave West Ham in the winter transfer window after struggling since arriving in a Bosman move last year.
Meanwhile, the Irons are sweating over Lucas Paqueta’s long-term future, and that brings Szymanski into the picture. Several other candidates, including Joey Veerman, have also emerged on West Ham’s radar. However, Szymanski is also a viable target, although nine other clubs are keen on signing the 26-year-old Pole.
Lyon, Brighton & Hove Albion, Napoli, Lazio, Bayer Leverkusen, Eintracht Frankfurt, VfB Stuttgart, and RB Leipzig are also vying for Szymanski’s signature. Meanwhile, PSV Eindhoven will aim to secure his services on a loan deal as they prepare for Joey Veerman’s impending move to Fenerbahce.
