Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace have received a massive boost in their pursuit of Tottenham winger Brennan Johnson.
Brennan Johnson’s future has become a massive talking point of late, as he no longer has a prominent role in the team. According to a report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham are seriously considering parting ways with the Welsh international, and it is a massive boost for Crystal Palace, who are keen on acquiring his services.
After making a name for himself at Nottingham Forest, Johnson made the move to Tottenham in the summer of 2023 in a deal worth £47.5 million. He had quite an important role at the North London club in the initial years.
The 24-year-old right-winger was involved in 51 matches last season, and he finished with an impressive tally of 18 goals and seven assists. Despite that, Brennan Johnson has lost prominence under Thomas Frank this season.
Tottenham could now sell the Welsh winger
Brennan Johnson has been involved in 20 matches, but he has racked up fewer than 900 minutes of first-team action. While his contract at Spurs runs until the summer of 2028, his future is now up in the air as he has hardly started a game for them this season.
Tottenham are seriously considering cashing in on him, amidst increasing interest in the 24-year-old. The player’s departure could help them bring in top-quality forwards, who are a better fit in Frank’s system.
Crystal Palace keen on signing Brennan Johnson
Crystal Palace have emerged as a potential destination for the youngster, and they are set to test Tottenham’s stance in the winter transfer window. Spurs value him at around £50 million, which suggests a transfer won’t be that straightforward.
With Ismaila Sarr leaving for the African Cup of Nations, Glasner is very keen on having a replacement at the start of the winter window. As a result, it will be interesting to see if they go all out to land Johnson, who is not having the best of times at the North London club. A potential transfer could help all parties involved, but the finances will decide whether it goes through or not.
