West Ham United may look to sign 24-year-old Mexican international Santiago Gimenez from AC Milan in a swap deal in the winter transfer window.
According to a report by Italian outlet Milan Live, Santiago Gimenez is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a striker in the winter transfer window. So, the 24-year-old AC Milan centre-forward has emerged as a target for the East London outfit.
The report has revealed that West Ham may look to execute a swap deal to sign the Resistencia-born striker, with Niclas Fullkrug and Jean-Clair Todibo emerging as options for the East London club. However, while AC Milan will not sign Fullkrug due to his fitness issues, it is unclear if Todibo will be a good enough option for the Rossoneri to consider.
Why has Santiago Gimenez failed to make his mark at AC Milan?
Santiago Gimenez has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining AC Milan from Feyenoord earlier this year. While the 24-year-old was among the world’s most promising young strikers during his spell in the Eredivisie, he has struggled to make his mark during his stint with AC Milan. Additionally, he has steadily fallen in the pecking order under Massimiliano Allegri.
The Mexican international has managed only 768 minutes of game time across 11 appearances in all competitions thus far in the 2025/26 season while chipping in with one goal and two assists. However, Gimenez’s stock in the market has not fallen, with West Ham United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the winter transfer window.
Premier League adventure on the horizon?
Santiago Gimenez has been on West Ham United’s radar for a long time, and they wanted to sign him before he joined AC Milan. The continued interest is understandable, as the Hammers are scouring the market for a striker heading into the winter transfer window due to Niclas Fullkrug’s fitness issues.
The veteran German striker is eager to leave West Ham in the winter transfer window, with the East London outfit ready to cash in on him. So, with Callum Wilson on the wrong side of 30, the Premier League outfit must sign another striker in the winter transfer window. The latest report has revealed that West Ham may offer a swap deal involving Fullkrug to land Gimenez.
However, the opportunity to secure Fullkrug’s services does not appeal to AC Milan due to his fitness issues. Jean-Clair Todibo is another option for West Ham, and they may offer the Frenchman in a swap deal to land Gimenez. With West Ham in a packed race to sign the 24-year-old Mexican international, it will be interesting to see if an exchange arrangement transpires.
