Manchester United in contact with Casemiro over new contract

Manchester United and Casemiro’s representatives are reportedly in contact over a new contract with “drastically reduced terms” than his current £350,000-a-week wages.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on United in Focus, Casemiro may have a long-term future at Manchester United. The Red Devils have contacted the Brazilian midfielder’s entourage to discuss a new contract with “drastically reduced terms” than his current £350,000-a-week wages.

Casemiro and his time at Manchester United so far

Casemiro has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Manchester United from Real Madrid in a deal worth £70 million, including add-ons, in August 2022. The experienced South American midfielder did not take long to establish a foothold at Old Trafford, and he was a pivotal figure in a memorable 2022/23 campaign that yielded the EFL Cup and a top-four finish.

However, since then, the 33-year-old has struggled to remain consistent in the middle of the park, and he has started showing signs of age catching up with him. Fortunately for the veteran midfielder, things have improved under Ruben Amorim, who has preferred pairing the former Real Madrid midfielder with Bruno Fernandes in the middle of the park.

The Brazilian midfielder has made nearly 150 appearances for Manchester United thus far, scoring 20 goals and providing 13 assists. However, the former Real Madrid midfielder’s long-term future at Manchester United is uncertain, as he has entered the final 12 months of his contract. The situation has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs, including those from the Saudi Pro League.

What next?

Al-Nassr wanted to sign Casemiro in the summer transfer window, but the deal failed to materialise. The continued interest from Al-Nassr and other Saudi Pro League clubs makes sense, as moving to Saudi Arabia can help the Manchester United midfielder stretch his career for a few more years.

Recent reports have also linked the former Real Madrid midfielder with Brazilian clubs while suggesting that he is eager to move to Sao Paulo. However, a new contract with Manchester United may be on the cards, as the Red Devils have contacted the veteran midfielder’s entourage over a deal with “drastically reduced terms” than his current £350,000-a-week wages.

Widespread reports have suggested that the Premier League bigwigs are open to extending Casemiro’s stay at Old Trafford if he is ready to pocket significantly reduced wages. It will be interesting to see how talks between Manchester United and the 33-year-old Brazilian international progress in the coming months.
