Liverpool retain confidence in Marc Guehi chase

Premier League champions Liverpool are reportedly hopeful of beating Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid in the race to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi.

According to a report by Football Insider, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid are keen on signing Marc Guehi next year. The Crystal Palace captain is also a target for Liverpool, with the Merseyside outfit coming close to securing his services in the summer transfer window. The Reds are optimistic about beating the other European bigwigs to his signature.

Marc Guehi is on the cusp of embarking on a new adventure after entering the final 12 months of his deal with Crystal Palace. The 25-year-old has been one of the best defenders in the Premier League since arriving from Chelsea in July 2021, making significant progress in the last four years. The Englishman has been instrumental in Crystal Palace’s recent success, guiding them to the FA Cup and the Community Shield this year.

However, Guehi is ready for a new adventure after coming close to joining Liverpool this past summer. The English international has made over 150 appearances thus far for Crystal Palace while chipping in with nine goals and four assists. However, his contract situation has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs, with Liverpool, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

A man in demand

Liverpool came close to signing the Crystal Palace captain in the summer transfer window, but the deal failed to materialise. The continued interest makes sense, as Giovanni Leoni has picked up a long-term knee injury. Additionally, Ibrahima Konate’s long-term future is uncertain due to his contract situation. So, Guehi is a viable target for Liverpool, with the Reds in talks over a deal.

Meanwhile, Barcelona’s interest in Marc Guehi is understandable. The reigning La Liga champions may part ways with Andreas Christensen next year, and the Crystal Palace captain is a viable option to replace the Danish defender. As for Bayern Munich, Dayot Upamecano may depart from the Allianz Arena as a free agent. Interestingly, the Frenchman is a target for Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Speaking of Real Madrid, David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger are on the wrong side of 30, compelling Los Blancos to pursue at least one centre-back to replace them. So, Guehi is a viable target for Real Madrid, and recent reports have claimed that the 25-year-old Englishman prefers the Spanish giants over Liverpool.

However, the Premier League champions are optimistic about securing Guehi’s services, thus beating Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid to his signature. But with several reports revealing the English defender’s preference, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Crystal Palace captain.
