Leeds United will reportedly look to sign 33-year-old New Zealander striker Chris Wood from fellow Premier League club Nottingham Forest in the winter transfer window.
According to an update by Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Chris Wood is the subject of interest of Leeds United. The Whites are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a striker in the winter transfer window. So, the 33-year-old Nottingham Forest centre-forward has emerged as a target for the newly promoted Premier League club.
Chris Wood and his time at Nottingham Forest
Chris Wood has established himself as one of the most productive strikers in the Premier League since joining Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United. The Tricky Trees initially signed the experienced striker on loan in January 2023 before completing a permanent move six months later. However, he has not looked back since moving to the City Ground.
The 33-year-old is a veteran of English football, having been in the country since July 2008, having joined West Bromwich Albion. Since then, the veteran striker has represented West Brom, Barnsley, Birmingham City, Brighton & Hove Albion, Bristol City, Leicester City, Millwall, Ipswich Town, Leeds United, Burnley, Newcastle United, and Nottingham Forest.
The 86-cap New Zealand international has made nearly 100 appearances thus far for Nottingham Forest, amassing 39 goals and four assists. Meanwhile, Wood’s exploits for the Premier League outfit have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Leeds United will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the winter transfer window.
Elland Road return on the horizon?
Leeds United’s interest in Chris Wood is surprising. The Whites have a stacked offensive unit after signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha in the summer transfer window. Additionally, Daniel Farke’s squad has another striker, with Joel Piroe playing his part in Leeds United’s promotion to the Premier League.
Nevertheless, the 2024/25 EFL Championship winners are ready to dip their toes in the market for a striker again, with several candidates, including Jean-Philippe Mateta, emerging on their radar. However, Wood is also a viable target for the West Yorkshire outfit, even though he will be a short-term solution in the final third.
Meanwhile, recent reports have linked the 86-cap New Zealand international with West Ham United. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 33-year-old Nottingham Forest striker, who may be available if the Tricky Trees make him available for a deal.
