Paul Konchesky has raised doubts about Nuno Espirito Santo being the ideal candidate to replace Graham Potter at West Ham United.
In a conversation with Give Me Sport, Paul Konchesky suggested Nuno Espirito Santo may not be the ideal candidate to replace Graham Potter at West Ham United. Potter’s long-term future at the East London club is uncertain after a horrendous start to the 2025/26 season. So, the former Tottenham and Nottingham Forest manager has emerged as a target for West Ham.
Konchesky said, “I think, at first, people would say it’s a good appointment. But his style is much like David Moyes. When you look at his Nottingham Forest side, they used to defend on the edge of their box and tried to hit teams on the counter-attack because they had two quick wingers and an attacking threat.”
“For me, that’s how David Moyes played and the West Ham fans eventually didn’t like that way. They like a bit of attacking football. It would be interesting to see what the fans think, but let’s wait and see how Graham Potter does.”
Nuno Espirito Santo and his situation
Nuno Espirito Santo has produced consistent results in the Premier League over the last eight years, making him one of the most efficient managers in the top flight. The Portuguese tactician has made his mark during his stints with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest, guiding both clubs to surprise European qualification.
However, his spell with Tottenham did not last long, with the North London club parting ways with the 51-year-old after a few weeks. Nevertheless, Nuno has resurrected his fortunes after an excellent stint with Nottingham Forest, becoming one of the most sought-after managers in the market since departing from the City Ground due to an increasingly frosty relationship with Evangelos Marinakis and Edu.
What next for Nuno?
Meanwhile, Graham Potter has struggled to guide West Ham United to stability since taking over at the London Stadium last year, not even winning 25 per cent of his outings thus far. The 2025/26 season has been dreadful, with West Ham sitting in the relegation zone after managing only three points in five games. So, the Hammers are mulling over parting ways with Potter, with Nuno emerging as a target.
The Hammers have already contacted the former Tottenham manager over the possibility of replacing Potter at the London Stadium. However, with Paul Konchesky raising doubts about Nuno’s viability at West Ham, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 51-year-old Portuguese tactician.
