Tottenham Hotspur in transfer tussle to sign Pascal Struijk

Tottenham Hotspur and other Premier League clubs will reportedly look to sign 26-year-old Dutch defender Pascal Struijk from Leeds United next year.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on Leeds United News, Pascal Struijk is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a centre-back next year. So, the 26-year-old Leeds United mainstay has emerged as a target for the North London club.

The Whites are in a spot of bother on the PSR front, and they may violate the rules if they do not cash in on a few players in the next two transfer windows. So, the situation may force Leeds United to part ways with Struijk unless they identify other players who can give them valuable returns.

Pascal Struijk and his Leeds United career so far

Pascal Struijk has established himself as a pivotal figure since joining Leeds United from Ajax in January 2018. The 26-year-old initially spent some time with the West Yorkshire club’s under-23 team before becoming a regular for the senior side. The Belgian-born defender has come into his own in the last few years, becoming a mainstay at the back for Leeds United.

The Dutch defender has made over 150 appearances thus far for Leeds United while chipping in with 14 goals and one assist. However, Struijk’s long-term future at Elland Road is uncertain due to the newly promoted Premier League club’s dubious financial status. The situation has alerted several top-flight clubs, with Tottenham Hotspur among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

London calling?

Pascal Struijk has been on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar for a long time. The continued interest is understandable, considering Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero have piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs. While the Lilywhites are eager to keep the first-choice centre-backs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the long haul, they must keep their options open.

So, several candidates, including Jarrad Branthwaite, have emerged on Tottenham’s radar, with Struijk also a viable target. However, a move will only materialise if Leeds United’s struggles on the PSR front continue.

The White can alleviate their need to sell Struijk by cashing in on another high-value asset. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 26-year-old long-serving Dutch defender amid his links with Tottenham Hotspur.
