Inter Milan have added Illan Meslier to their list of goalkeeper targets ahead of 2026, as the search for a Yann Sommer replacement continues.
According to Ekrem Konur, Inter Milan have added Illan Meslier to their list of potential goalkeeping targets to replace Yann Sommer. The French goalkeeper, out of contract in 2026, is already a third-choice stopper at the Yorkshire club, with his future certainly far away from Leeds United at the moment.
Illan Meslier no longer holds the status as Leeds United’s undisputed No.1, a spot new arrival Lucas Perri has assumed since his arrival from Lyon in the summer. The Brazilian has started three out of the four Premier League games so far this season, with Meslier merely featuring on the bench for one of those.
The only game Perri missed was the recent defeat to Fulham, in which 34-year-old Karl Darlow started, which effectively confirmed Meslier’s status as a third-choice stopper this season. He could potentially move from third to second choice, but the writing is on the wall regarding his long-term future, which looks far away from Leeds United.
Illan Meslier attracted interest from a few sides at the latter stages of the transfer window, but he ended up staying at Leeds United. The Frenchman is in the final year of his deal, as Leeds United are showing no signs of keeping him beyond that, which activates the possibility of a January departure or a Bosman move next summer.
Inter Milan are reportedly on his case ahead of 2026, as they continue their search for a long-term Yann Sommer replacement. While the Nerazzurri are showing an interest in the 25-year-old out-of-favour star, there are no guarantees that the Frenchman is their first choice in the market, as the Italians are exploring other names, with the common factor being that all their targets are out of contract next summer.

Stefan Ortega is another name on Inter Milan’s shortlist, and on current stature, the Manchester City shot-stopper should be ahead of Meslier on that list. Either of those keepers are available for a relatively cheap price in January, although Inter Milan could wait until the summer to sign the Leeds United outcast on a free transfer.
As for Illan Meslier, his time at Leeds United is probably over, having made 214 appearances for the club. During this period, he was the undisputed first-choice stopper for five out of the six seasons, excluding the current one, with the 25-year-old out-of-favour star now ready to open a new chapter elsewhere.
