Liverpool could offer a new deal to Andrew Robertson

Liverpool could offer a new deal to retain Andrew Robertson and prevent his departure on a free transfer amid Atletico Madrid’s interest.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are thinking about offering Andrew Robertson a new deal to retain his value in the market. As it stands, the Scottish full-back is into the final year of his deal, while teams like Atletico Madrid are circling for his signature, as the Merseysiders are not eager to lose him on a free transfer next summer.

The summer window saw Liverpool make some terrific signings, including that of Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike to improve their attack. The Merseysiders also invested in full-backs such as Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez, which cast doubts on some of their existing stars.

The arrival of Kerkez from Bournemouth was expected to directly impact Andrew Robertson’s future. The club were thinking about cashing in on the long-serving wide man, although they ended up allowing Kostas Tsimikas to depart while keeping hold of the Scotsman.

Atletico Madrid were interested in signing Robertson, as there were reports of talks between the two clubs. Some outlets suggested Robertson was open to joining the Spanish giants, although he did end up staying at Liverpool, especially after Tsimikas’s late departure.

As things stand, Robertson is into the final year of his deal at Anfield, and Atletico Madrid are still keen to sign him next year. The ideal scenario would see the Spanish giants sign him up on a free transfer, but Liverpool are now planning a twist that could see them retain his value.

Liverpool are considering a new Andrew Robertson contract

Liverpool are considering the idea of offering Robertson a new deal to retain his value amid Atletico Madrid’s interest. The defender may have to choose between renewing his stay or leaving, given he has fought his way back into the side and recently benched Kerkez for the game against Atletico Madrid at Anfield in the Champions League.

Liverpool are seemingly looking to avoid a scenario where they do not lose the defender on a Bosman deal next summer. Whether that will prove enough to convince Robetson remains to be seen, as in the coming months, Atletico Madrid could accelerate their chase in a bid to have an agreement in place in the background to sign the defender on a free transfer next summer.
