Rangers in talks to sign Youssef Chermiti on loan from Everton

Scottish Premiership giants Rangers will reportedly look to sign 21-year-old Portuguese striker Youssef Chermiti on loan from Everton before the summer transfer window closes.

According to an update by the reliable Paul Joyce, Youssef Chermiti is the subject of interest from Rangers. The Scottish Premiership giants are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a striker in the final days of the summer transfer window. So, the 21-year-old Everton attacking prospect has emerged as a target for the Light Blues.

The Gers want to sign the Santa Maria native on a season-long loan deal, and they have held talks with Everton regarding a late move. Chermiti will become the fifth player to join Rangers from a Premier League club in the summer transfer window if the move materialises.

Youssef Chermiti and his Everton struggles

Youssef Chermiti has hit a brick wall since joining Everton from Sporting CP in an eyebrow-raising move in August 2023. While the 21-year-old was a highly-rated striker during his formative years and showed promise at Sporting CP, fitness issues and an intense competition for places have blighted his progress in the last two years.

The Portuguese attacking prospect has managed only 295 minutes of game time across 24 appearances thus far for Everton, and he has yet to find the back of the net. So, it is hardly surprising that the Toffees are open to sanctioning a loan departure from the Hill Dickinson Stadium for Chermiti. Rangers will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the final days of the summer transfer window.

Scottish adventure on the horizon?

Rangers’ interest in Youssef Chermiti is understandable. While Russell Martin has three strikers in his squad, he is on the verge of losing one of them, as Hamza Igamane is on the cusp of joining Ligue 1 club LOSC Lille in a deal worth £10.4 million.

So, the Scottish Premiership giants are scouring the market for a striker in the final days of the summer transfer window, with Chermiti emerging as a viable target. Rangers and Everton are in talks over a season-long loan deal, making it a low-risk move for all three parties.

Meanwhile, if the move materialises, the 21-year-old Portuguese attacking prospect will become the fifth player to join Rangers on loan from a Premier League club in the summer transfer window after Max Aarons, Mikey Moore, Nasser Djiga, and Jayden Meghoma. Meanwhile, the Scottish heavyweights have also shown interest in other Premier League players, including Illan Meslier.
