Arsenal will only allow 25-year-old Polish utility man Jakub Kiwior to join FC Porto after they sign his replacement amid their links with Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.
According to a report by Italian outlet O Jogo, Jakub Kiwior has been the subject of interest from FC Porto. The Primeira Liga giants have been keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a versatile defender in the final days of the summer transfer window. So, the 25-year-old Arsenal utility man has been a top target for the Dragoes.
Arsenal and FC Porto have finalised the negotiations surrounding Kiwior, with the two clubs striking an agreement over a deal. However, the Pole must wait until the Gunners have secured his replacement, with the North London club working on the deal to sign Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen.
Jakub Kiwior and his time at Arsenal so far
Jakub Kiwior has not been the most satisfied player since joining Arsenal from Spezia Calcio in a deal worth €20 million in January 2023. While the 25-year-old Pole has made considerable progress despite his limited opportunities, he has been a squad player for the North London club throughout his spell in the last two and a half years.
However, the Polish defender’s ability to play as a centre-back and a left-back has helped him become a utility man for Arsenal. Kiwior has over 50 outings thus far for the Premier League club while chipping in with three goals and five assists. However, his search for regular game time will take him away from Arsenal, with FC Porto on the verge of signing him in the summer transfer window.
Portuguese adventure on the horizon
FC Porto’s interest in Jakub Kiwior is understandable. The Primeira Liga giants have been eager to sign a versatile centre-back, with Francesco Farioli demanding more options at the heart of the defence despite signing Jan Bednarek. So, Kiwior has emerged as a viable target, with FC Porto striking an agreement with Arsenal.
Talks between Arsenal and FC Porto intensified in the last few days, and the two clubs finalised an agreement for a reported loan deal with a purchase obligation clause. Widespread updates suggested that the 25-year-old Pole would travel to Portugal for his medical tests.
However, the Gunners have forced Kiwior to wait before completing his move to FC Porto, as they will only allow him to leave after they sign a replacement. With Arsenal working on a deal to sign Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen, the two moves will likely happen soon.
