Arsenal utility man Jakub Kiwior is reportedly on the verge of joining FC Porto this summer on a season-long loan deal with a purchase obligation clause worth €25 million.
According to a report by Portuguese outlet A Bola, Jakub Kiwior has been the subject of interest from FC Porto. The Primeira Liga giants have been keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a versatile defender in the final days of the summer transfer window. So, the 25-year-old Arsenal utility man emerged as a target for the Dragoes.
Arsenal and FC Porto have finalised the negotiations surrounding Kiwior, with the two clubs striking an agreement over a loan deal with a purchase obligation clause worth €25 million. Meanwhile, the Pole has travelled to Portugal to undergo his medical tests and complete his move to the Primeira Liga club.
Jakub Kiwior and his Arsenal exasperations
Jakub Kiwior has endured a frustrating wait for regular game time since joining Arsenal from Spezia Calcio in a deal worth €20 million in January 2023. While the 25-year-old Pole has made his mark in the limited opportunities that have come his way, he has been a squad player for the North London club in the last two and a half years.
However, the Polish defender’s ability to play as a centre-back and a left-back has helped him become a utility man for the North London club. Kiwior has over 50 outings thus far for the Premier League club while chipping in with three goals and five assists. However, his search for regular game time will take him away from Arsenal, with FC Porto on the verge of signing him in the summer transfer window.
Portuguese adventure on the horizon
FC Porto’s interest in Jakub Kiwior makes sense. The Primeira Liga giants have been combing the market for a versatile centre-back, with Francesco Farioli demanding more quality at the heart of the defence despite signing Jan Bednarek. So, Kiwior has emerged as a viable target, although FC Porto failed with an initial approach to sign the Arsenal utility man.
However, talks between Arsenal and FC Porto intensified in the last few days, and the two clubs have struck an agreement for a loan deal with a purchase obligation clause worth €25 million. The valuation consists of the loan fee and the acquisition price, with the 25-year-old Pole ready to move to Estadio do Dragao.
Meanwhile, Kiwior is travelling to Portugal to undergo his medical tests, and the official announcement should come soon. It will be interesting to see if the Polish utility man can find a stable footing at FC Porto after struggling for regular game time at Arsenal.
