Manchester United eyeing Lamine Camara as Carlos Baleba alternative

Manchester United may look to sign 21-year-old Senegalese international Lamine Camara from Ligue 1 club AS Monaco in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Lamine Camara is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a versatile midfielder in the summer transfer window. So, the 21-year-old AS Monaco prospect has emerged as a target for them.

The struggling Premier League giants are focusing on bolstering their midfield department after striking an agreement to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig. While Carlos Baleba is a top target for Manchester United, Brighton & Hove Albion’s asking price of £100 million has forced them to consider alternatives to the Cameroonian international.

Lamine Camara and his progress in Ligue 1

Lamine Camara has been one of the best young prospects in Ligue 1 since joining AS Monaco from FC Metz last summer. The 21-year-old had already risen in prominence during his spell with FC Metz, having been a standout performer in a dreadful 2023/24 campaign for the French club. However, his stock has soared after a solid 2024/25 season.

The Senegalese midfielder has turned out nearly 50 times thus far for AS Monaco while chipping in with two goals and seven assists. Meanwhile, Camara’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Manchester United will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Manchester United’s interest in Lamine Camara is understandable. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a midfielder this summer amid uncertainties surrounding Casemiro’s long-term future. With Christian Eriksen departing from Old Trafford as a free agent, Manchester United must sign a dynamic midfielder.

Carlos Baleba has thus emerged as a target for Manchester United, with recent reports pointing to initial contact between all parties. However, Brighton & Hove Albion are demanding £100 million to part ways with the Cameroonian international, compelling Manchester United to look elsewhere for an alternative.

Half a dozen candidates have emerged on Manchester United’s wishlist, with Camara among the options. However, it is unclear if the struggling Premier League giants will firm up their interest in the 21-year-old Senegalese international in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.
