Illia Zabarnyi has heart set on PSG move

Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly look to sign 22-year-old Ukrainian international Illia Zabarnyi from fellow Premier League club Bournemouth in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Illia Zabarnyi is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites are eager to reinforce their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding Cristian Romero’s long-term future. So, the 22-year-old Bournemouth defender has emerged as a target for the North London outfit.

The 2024/25 UEFA Europa League winners have submitted an enquiry over a possible move in the summer transfer window. However, Zabarnyi is ready to end his short stay in the Premier League by joining Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window, with Bournemouth demanding around £60 million to part ways with him.

Illia Zabarnyi and his rise in the Premier League

Illia Zabarnyi has established himself as one of the most promising centre-backs in the Premier League since joining Bournemouth from Dynamo Kyiv in January 2023. The 22-year-old has made considerable progress in the last two and a half years, playing a leading role in the Cherries’ ascent in the Premier League standings.

The Ukrainian international has turned out nearly 100 times thus far for Bournemouth while chipping in with one goal and one assist. Meanwhile, Zabarnyi’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

What next?

Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Illia Zabarnyi is understandable. The Lilywhites are scouring the market for a centre-back this summer amid uncertainties surrounding Cristian Romero’s long-term future. Several candidates, including Maxence Lacroix, have emerged on Tottenham’s radar, with Zabarnyi also a viable target. The North London giants have also submitted an enquiry over a possible move.

However, Zabarnyi does not want to join another Premier League club and is pushing for a transfer to PSG. The Ligue 1 club’s interest in the youngster is perplexing at first glance. However, Presnel Kimpembe and Lucas Beraldo face an uncertain future at Parc des Princes. So, Zabarnyi is an option worth considering.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth will demand around £60 million to part ways with the 22-year-old Ukrainian international. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Zabarnyi and if he gets his desired move to PSG after dealing a blow to Tottenham.
