AS Roma set to shelve decision on Rasmus Hojlund until August

AS Roma will not make the move for 22-year-old Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund until August, even though Gian Piero Gasperini wants a reunion at the Serie A club.

According to a report by Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, Rasmus Hojlund is the subject of interest from AS Roma. The Serie A giants are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a striker in the summer transfer window. So, the struggling 22-year-old Manchester United centre-forward has emerged as a target for the Giallorossi.

However, the move for the young Manchester United striker will not see the light of day imminently, as the Serie A heavyweights put all their focus on sealing the deal to sign Evan Ferguson from Brighton & Hove Albion. So, the discussions to sign the Dane will not resume until August, even though Gian Piero Gasperini wants a reunion at Stadio Olimpico.

Rasmus Hojlund and his Manchester United misery

Rasmus Hojlund has blown hot and cold since joining Manchester United from Atalanta in a big-money deal in August 2023. While the 22-year-old was excellent in his debut season at Old Trafford and showed flashes of brilliance, he was dreadful in his second campaign with the Red Devils, with the goals drying up.

The Danish international managed only ten goals and four assists in 52 appearances across all competitions, with only four strikes coming in the Premier League in 32 outings. However, the Manchester United striker’s stock in the market is high. AS Roma will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

Serie A return beckons?

AS Roma’s interest in Rasmus Hojlund makes sense. The Serie A giants are combing the market for a striker this summer after Tammy Abraham’s latest move away from Stadio Olimpico. In addition, Artem Dovbyk faces an uncertain future at AS Roma after an indifferent debut season with the Giallorossi.

So, several candidates, including Evan Ferguson, have emerged on AS Roma’s radar, with Hojlund also being a viable target. Interestingly, Ferguson is closing on joining the Giallorossi from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer transfer window. So, the Serie A giants have shelved the move for Hojlund until August, even though Gian Piero Gasperini wants to reunite with the Dane at Stadio Olimpico.

The 22-year-old Danish international may not take long to settle down at Stadio Olimpico, considering his familiarity with Gasperini’s system. Meanwhile, Hojlund does not feature in Manchester United’s plans, and a summer move may be possible. So, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the young striker.
