Atletico Madrid want to sign Chelsea midfield sensation Andrey Santos, who could be available for €40 million.
According to a report from Fichajes, Atletico Madrid are interested in acquiring the services of Andrey Santos. Diego Simeone’s team are actively scouring the market to bolster their midfield options, and they believe the Brazilian midfielder could be a perfect addition to their project.
Santos had made quite a name for himself coming up the ranks at Vasco da Gama. It resulted in a lot of interest from top clubs across Europe. Eventually, Chelsea won the race for his signature as they struck a deal with the Brazilian side at the start of 2023.
He continued at his childhood club for another six months before making the move to Stamford Bridge. The Blues ended up sending him out on loan to Nottingham Forest. The move to the Tricky Trees didn’t work out, and he ended up joining Chelsea’s sister club RC Strasbourg, on an 18-month-long loan deal.
He has certainly made the most out of the move to the French club. The 20-year-old has featured in a total of 27 matches this season, and he has contributed towards a total of 13 goals. He has been equally effective in a central midfield as well as a defensive role.
Santos could part ways with Chelsea this summer
His performances haven’t gone unnoticed, and the report suggests the Blues could now look to cash in on him this summer. He might be a part of Enzo Maresca’s plans going forward. As a result, the London club are ready to sanction his departure for a fee close to €40 million.
Atletico Madrid have emerged as a potential destination for the young midfielder. Simeone seeks more quality and depth in the centre of the park after missing out on all major titles this season. The club have been closely monitoring Santos and believe he would suit the Argentine manager’s system well, given his strong work rate and physical presence.
The arrival of the 20-year-old could freshen things up at Atletico, but they won’t find it easy to sign him as there are other top clubs who are keen on his signature. Apart from that, Chelsea’s €40 million price tag will also complicate things for the Madrid-based outfit. It will be interesting to see if they will be willing to fork out that big a fee to sign the young gun.
