Real Madrid will reportedly look to sign 26-year-old Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP in a deal worth around €100 million in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Viktor Gyokeres is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions are scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the Sporting CP star. The Merengues are ready to cough up €100 million to land the Swedish international amid his links with Manchester United.
Viktor Gyokeres and his transformation
Viktor Gyokeres has established himself as one of the best strikers in the world since joining Sporting CP from Coventry City in July 2023. The Swede is a well-travelled striker, representing clubs in Sweden, Germany, England, and Portugal while excelling at Coventry City and Sporting CP.
Few could have foreseen Gyokeres’s productivity at Sporting CP, and the player has produced mind-boggling returns at the Primeira Liga club. The 26-year-old goal machine has amassed 39 goals and nine assists in 40 appearances across all competitions thus far this term.
Gyokeres has also been prolific for his national side, often scoring goals for fun during his outings for Sweden. Meanwhile, the Swedish striker’s exploits for his club and country have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of high-profile clubs across Europe. Manchester United and Real Madrid are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
A man in demand
Manchester United’s interest in Viktor Gyokeres makes sense. Rasmus Hojlund has struggled to stamp his authority in his second season at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Joshua Zirkzee has improved in his recent outings but does not have the productivity in front of the goal. So, the Sporting CP striker is a viable target for Manchester United.
As for Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappe has been exceptional despite experiencing teething problems at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, the French international does not prefer playing as a striker, making Gyokeres an option worth considering for Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions are ready to intensify their efforts to sign the Swede by offering around €100 million.
The prospect of recouping around €100 million from Gyokeres’s sale might appeal to Sporting CP. However, it will be interesting to see how Manchester United respond to Real Madrid’s impending big-money proposal.
