Manchester United are eager to join the race for Florian Wirtz next summer, with the Bayer Leverkusen star seen as a perfect fit for Ruben Amorim’s style.
According to Fichajes, Manchester United’s big summer plans include a pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz. The Red Devils are eager to bring players that perfectly suit Ruben Amorim’s style, with the German international seen in that mould.
The summer window might be when Manchester United will get active in their bid to build a team to Ruben Amorim’s specifications. The Portuguese tactician plays with a specific style using wing-backs and back three. At the same time, he also emphasises using goalscoring playmakers, for which he currently has only Bruno Fernandes in that mould.
Hence, it’s no surprise that Amorim wants the club to go after Germany superstar Florian Wirtz, although there are alternative names like Francisco Trincao and Xavi Simons also mentioned. The idea here is to bring a player known to have played in a similar system and one who will fit instantly into Amorim’s plans.
Wirtz is not an easy target by any means, given the level of clubs chasing his signature. Real Madrid have been interested for a while, and next summer they could make their move for the player with 14 goals and 11 assists this season in all competitions.
Liverpool and Manchester City are also looking at Wirtz, with the latter considering him as a long-term replacement for Kevin De Bruyne. Hence, Manchester United will find it challenging to lure the 14-goal star, especially without Champions League football.
Can Manchester United sign Florian Wirtz?
There’s always a chance for a club like Manchester United to land the best players in the world, and that includes Wirtz. However, there are a lot of other factors apart from being able to afford the player as well as paying the required wages, as they might also have to show sporting ambition. Wirtz is also likely to extend his deal at Leverkusen, meaning he will be extremely costly in the summer market.
Manchester United will hope to be a force under Amorim, who instead will want full support from the club in building the squad. However, as things stand, they are unlikely to make it back into the Champions League next season, which may have a big effect on their chances of signing players like Wirtz.
