West Ham United edge closer to signing Andre Silva

West Ham United and RB Leipzig have reportedly advanced talks over a loan move for 29-year-old Portuguese striker Andre Silva until the end of the 2024/25 season.

According to an update by reputed German journalist Philipp Hinze, Andre Silva is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers have been scouring the market for a striker heading into the winter transfer window. So, the RB Leipzig attacker has emerged as a target, with the East London club advancing the talks to sign the Portuguese international on loan this month.

Andre Silva and his career rollercoaster

Andre Silva has endured a topsy-turvy ride throughout his professional career. The experienced striker was one of the most promising young prospects in the world during his spell with FC Porto. However, he has blown hot and cold since leaving the Primeira Liga giants in 2017.

The 29-year-old enjoyed mild success at Eintracht Frankfurt but was unimpressive in his stints with AC Milan and Sevilla. The spell with RB Leipzig has also been disappointing, with Silva enduring a topsy-turvy ride at the Bundesliga club since arriving from Eintracht Frankfurt in July 2021.

The Portuguese international has barely featured for RB Leipzig this month, not even completing 500 minutes of game time across 15 appearances in all competitions while chipping in with one goal and three assists. Meanwhile, Silva’s stock in the market remains high despite his struggles at RB Leipzig, with West Ham United among his prospective suitors in the winter transfer window.

London calling?

West Ham United’s interest in Andre Silva is understandable. The Hammers have been scouring the market for a striker heading into the winter transfer window after losing Niclas Fullkrug, Michail Antonio, and Jarrod Bowen to long-term issues in the last few weeks.

So, Silva has emerged as a viable target, with recent reports suggesting he wants a move to the East London club. The Hammers have advanced their talks with RB Leipzig to sign the struggling striker on an initial loan deal in the winter transfer window. A possible agreement will include a purchase option for West Ham.

While the two clubs are yet to seal an agreement over a loan deal for the 29-year-old Portuguese international, they have engaged in constructive discussions. So, it will be interesting to see if West Ham can beat the competition to Silva’s signature, with German clubs also keen on signing him.
