Juventus set to launch late move for Ben Chilwell

Juventus could make an offer for Ben Chilwell late in this month’s window as a potential replacement for Manchester City-linked Andrea Cambiaso.

According to Caught Offside, Juventus could launch a move for Chelsea outcast Ben Chilwell, as they might seek a late replacement for Manchester City-linked Andrea Cambiaso. The Blues are demanding £25 million for the left-back, although there’s a bit of wriggle room in negotiations on price.

Ben Chilwell’s time at Stamford Bridge was all but over last summer, only for the defender to stay put because of a lack of interest from other clubs. In the time since the summer window ended, there were instances where Enzo Maresca could have used the former Leicester City star but chose to give him a solitary appearance, which came in the Carabao Cup.

Chilwell was one of the first names expected to depart the club in the January window. Instead, summer signing Renato Veiga has made his move to Juventus on loan. Chilwell could follow him to Turin as the Bianconeri are looking for another defender to shore up their backline.

Everton are also interested in Chilwell as David Moyes could see him as a good addition to their squad. Chelsea, for their part, are eager to sell the defender permanently and has asked for a £25 million fee in return. However, there’s some wriggle room in negotiations that could see the Blues accept an offer close to £20 million.

Juventus had already approached Chelsea for Chilwell alongside Veiga and could get the upper hand to bring the £25 million-rated Chelsea misfit to Turin. The idea of having an experienced player like him would be seen as beneficial for the next phase under Thiago Motta. Still, Juventus are likely to sign him late in the window, depending on what happens to Andrea Cambiaso’s future.

Ben Chilwell to replace Andrea Cambiaso?

Sticking with Chilwell, and the report suggests personal terms are not expected to be a problem in his quest to join Juventus. It certainly is an indication that any move might be a permanent switch, although the Biandoneri will only make a move depending on what happens with Cambiaso’s future.

Manchester City are eager to sign Cambiaso this month, and only if the move goes through will Juventus consider signing the £25 million-rated Chelsea misfit. Hence, a move for Chilwell to Turin is not straightforward and has conditions attached, as Juventus will also have to agree a fee with Chelsea.
