Marcus Rashford has reportedly sealed the agreement to join Barcelona, although a few obstacles remain for the Blaugrana.
According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Marcus Rashford remains the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are keen on sealing the arrival of the Manchester United outcast in the winter transfer window, and the two parties have an agreement to complete a loan move for the remainder of the 2024/25 season. However, the Blaugrana must create space on the wage bill before finalising the deal.
Marcus Rashford and a dramatic fall from grace
Marcus Rashford will be desperate for his next move after becoming “persona non grata” at Manchester United. The Englishman is in an unprecedented position, with Ruben Amorim not handing him any game time for nearly five weeks.
So, the 27-year-old will reluctantly leave his boyhood club this year, starting with a loan exit in the winter transfer window. Rashford has turned out over 400 times thus far for Manchester United while chipping in with 138 goals and 63 assists. However, the academy graduate has likely played his final game for the Red Devils, although the situation has not deterred prospective suitors.
Several high-profile clubs across Europe are keen on signing the English international, who pockets €18 million-a-year wages, in the winter transfer window. Recent reports have suggested that new talks are on the cards between Manchester United and prospective suitors like Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona. The Catalan giants have taken a step towards securing his services this month.
Barcelona move on the horizon?
Barcelona’s interest in Marcus Rashford makes sense. Ansu Fati has become a peripheral figure under Hansi Flick and does not have a future at the Catalan club. In addition, Ferran Torres has not done enough to become an undisputed first-choice starter for Barcelona. So, Rasford is an option worth considering.
While the Catalan giants are in the pole position to sign the Manchester United outcast, they must offload someone before landing their target. Ansu Fati is the player on the chopping block, with Barcelona eager to part ways with the 22-year-old to make room for Rashford. Meanwhile, Barcelona and Rashford have an agreement over a loan move until the end of the 2024/25 season.
However, Barcelona cannot complete a loan move before making room on the wage bill. While the 27-year-old Englishman is ready to take a pay cut on his €18 million-a-year wages to seal the deal, the transfer will not see the light of day until the Catalan giants sell a player.
