Manchester United are leading the race for the services of PSG full-back Nuno Mendes amidst interest from arch-rivals Manchester City.
According to a report from Football Insider, Manchester United are ahead of rivals Manchester City in the race for the services of Nuno Mendes. The PSG full-back is the Red Devils’ top target as they look to bring in a new left-wing back for Ruben Amorim.
Mendes has only gone from strength to strength since joining Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain from Sporting CP. The youngster has established himself as a key figure at PSG, and his consistent performances have put him on the radar of multiple top clubs.
Pep Guardiola has his eyes set on Nuno Mendes
Manchester City are one of the clubs that have been keeping a close eye on him for a while. They have been one of the busiest teams in the ongoing transfer window as they look to overhaul Pep Guardiola’s team. City are looking to strengthen quite a few positions, and they have been in talks to sign quite a few stars.
While the left-back position might not seem to be one of their priorities, they have not had an out-and-out left-sided full-back in their team for a few years now. It surely has been a concern for them, and Nuno Mendes has been a long-term target to address that issue.
Manchester United take the lead in Mendes’s pursuit
Manchester City might be forced to look elsewhere as their arch-rivals Manchester United have leapfrogged them in the race to his signature. The Red Devils are considered favourites to reach an agreement with the full-backs. People at United are confident that they will be able to seal a deal for Mendes.
The Red Devils are reportedly looking to part ways with Tyrell Malacia, whose move to the Old Trafford has not worked out. Given the kind of injury track record Luke Shaw has, reinforcing the left flank is a priority for new boss Amroim.
Meanwhile, PSG have no intentions of selling him mid-season. As a result, both Manchester clubs will have to wait until the summer to battle for his signature. Delaying a potential deal until the summer will play in the hands of Manchester United as they cannot afford to spend big in the ongoing window. But, they could surely have the funds to sign him ahead of next season.
