Barcelona in pole position to sign Marcus Rashford, player open to West Ham United switch under certain conditions

La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly the front-runners to sign 27-year-old Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford this month.

According to a report by Gazzetta dello Sport, as relayed by SPORT, AC Milan will unlikely pursue Marcus Rashford in the winter transfer window due to his desire to join Barcelona this month. So, the Catalan giants are in the pole position to sign the Manchester United outcast, although they need some concession from the Red Devils to seal the deal.

Meanwhile, a report by Give Me Sport has suggested that West Ham United will be in contention to sign the Englishman. Rashford is refusing to rule out a move to the East London club if he cannot secure an overseas transfer. Meanwhile, Manchester United will look to sell the out-of-favour attacker at around £40 million.

Marcus Rashford and his Manchester United muddle

Marcus Rashford has reached a crossroads in his career after becoming irrelevant to the first-team squad at Manchester United. Ruben Amorim has not handed the 27-year-old academy graduate a single minute for over a month, and it is clear he does not feature in the Portuguese manager’s plans.

The English international has turned out over 400 times thus far for Manchester United while chipping in with 138 goals and 63 assists. However, Rashford might have played his final game for the Red Devils, although the situation has not deterred prospective suitors. AC Milan, Barcelona, and West Ham United are keen on signing him, although the Serie A giants will likely drop out of the race.

Where next?

AC Milan’s stance comes amid Marcus Rashford’s eagerness to join Barcelona. Recent reports have claimed that the Englishman is ready to take a pay cut to seal the move to the Catalan club. With Ansu Fati failing to win over Hansi Flick, the Manchester United outcast has emerged as a viable candidate to replace the Barcelona academy graduate.

As for West Ham, Graham Potter is eager to bring in more firepower for the second half of the 2024/25 season after losing Jarrod Bowen, Niclas Fullkrug, and Michail Antonio to long-term issues. So, the Manchester United forward is an option worth considering for West Ham.

However, while the 27-year-old English international is open to joining West Ham United, Manchester United will likely block a move to a fellow Premier League club. So, all that puts Barcelona in the driver’s seat to land the player, although the Blaugrana might not have the funds to afford Manchester United’s asking price of £40 million.
