Barcelona will reportedly look to cash in on 22-year-old Spanish international Ansu Fati to facilitate the deal for 27-year-old Manchester United outcast Marcus Rashford.
According to a report by Hugo Cerezo and Matteo Moretto, Ansu Fati might make way for FC Barcelona to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United. The Catalan giants are eager to beat the competition to the signature of the English international. So, they are keen to part ways with the 22-year-old academy graduate to create room for the Manchester United outcast.
The rise and fall of Ansu Fati
Ansu Fati has endured a dramatic fall from grace after the high of his incredible debut season. Pundits and Barcelona fans hailed the Bissau-born attacker as the heir to Lionel Messi at the Catalan club after he took the world by storm as a teenage sensation in the 2019/20 season.
However, fitness issues have plagued Fati since a memorable debut season, stunting his progress and reducing him to the shell of a player he was half a decade ago. So, the 22-year-old has barely featured for Barcelona in recent seasons, while a loan deal with Brighton & Hove Albion did not yield the desired results.
The Spanish international has managed only 186 minutes of game time across eight outings thus far this term, with Hansi Flick omitting him from the matchday squad in the last few games. So, the writing is on the wall for the academy graduate, with Barcelona ready to cash in on him this month to make room for Marcus Rashford.
Barcelona’s Marcus Rashford interest
Marcus Rashford is a top target for Barcelona midway through the winter transfer window, with the Blaugrana already taking measures to secure his services this month. However, the Catalan club’s financial issues mean they must offload a player to make room for the Manchester United outcast.
So, Barcelona will aim to cash in on Ansu Fati to create the space for Marcus Rashford. However, the Spaniard’s wages make it difficult for Barcelona to offload him. In addition, the academy graduate does not want to leave the Blaugrana despite his fading game time.
Meanwhile, Rashford is eager to join Barcelona, and he is reportedly ready to take a pay cut to join the Catalan club. However, a deal might not materialise if Barcelona cannot offload Fati to make room for the 27-year-old Manchester United outcast.
