Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are reportedly interested in signing 28-year-old Ukrainian utility man Oleksandr Zinchenko from Arsenal.
According to an update by reputed German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Oleksandr Zinchenko is the subject of interest from Borussia Dortmund. The Bundesliga giants are scouring the market for a left-back and have set their sights on the Arsenal utility man. The Black and Yellows have held initial talks with the 28-year-old’s entourage, with the Gunners open to accepting a loan deal.
Oleksandr Zinchenko and his Arsenal woes
Oleksandr Zinchenko has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Arsenal from Manchester City in July 2022. The versatile footballer is a utility man due to his ability to play as a left-back and holding midfielder. However, he has not been as dependable for Arsenal as he was for Manchester City.
The 28-year-old has also struggled with fitness issues, while intense competition for places has restricted his game time. So, Zinchenko has not even managed 500 minutes of game time across 11 appearances in all competitions in the 2024/25 season thus far.
With the Ukrainian international struggling for game time at Arsenal, a winter departure might be on the cards. Jurrien Timber, Riccardo Calafiori, and Myles Lewis-Skelly are ahead of Zinchenko in the pecking order. So, Borussia Dortmund will hope they can land the Arsenal utility man’s signature as they eye a loan move this month.
Bundesliga move on the horizon?
Borussia Dortmund’s interest in Oleksandr Zinchenko is understandable. The Bundesliga giants have been scouring the market for a left-back since failing to sign Tyrell Malacia in the winter transfer window. So, several candidates, including Tyrell Malacia, have emerged on the German club’s radar, with the Arsenal utility man also a viable target.
The Black and Yellows have already held talks with Zinchenko’s representatives, with the former Manchester City footballer eager to leave Arsenal. Meanwhile, the North London outfit will not stand in the player’s way, and they are ready to accept an initial loan deal to send him to Borussia Dortmund.
The Gunners want the deal to include a purchase obligation clause worth €20 million. Arsenal’s stance is hardly surprising, considering they were ready to part ways with the 28-year-old Ukrainian international in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if he lands in the Bundesliga in the coming days.
