Chelsea bracing for Christopher Nkunku bids in January

Chelsea are expecting bids to come in for frustrated attacker Christopher Nkunku ahead of the January transfer window.

According to Football Insider, Chelsea are bracing for Christopher Nkunku’s offers ahead of the January transfer window. The French attacker, who has had a good enough output this season, remains a frustrated figure at Stamford Bridge, as an exit could be on the cards, as there’s some interest from Premier League clubs.

Christopher Nkunku is seen as one of the potent attackers in this Chelsea side, but many are baffled at his lack of game time, particularly in the Premier League. The Frenchman has been the team’s star in the Conference League and cup games, but he is struggling to enter the frame for top-flight games.

Christopher Nkunku has been a regular off the bench, featuring in 16 of the 17 Premier League games for Chelsea, with only two coming as starts. Meanwhile, he has notched 16 goals and assists this season in all competition with the bulk of it coming in the Conference League and cup games. So, the Frenchman is frustrated at a lack of opportunities in the top flight.

Enzo Maresca recently described Nkunku as an attacking midfielder rather than a striker, which does explain his lack of minutes in the Premier League. Cole Palmer is the undisputed starter in that position.

With the January transfer window fast approaching, Chelsea are bracing for offers to come in for the frustrated Frenchman, with a few Premier League sides expected to enquire. Manchester United have held an interest from a while ago, and they could come it to see if a deal can be struck.

Chelsea could sanction Nkunku exit

Chelsea are well stacked in their attacking setup, and there are reports that they could sanction a loan deal for Christopher Nkunku. The player could still be seen as a key player for the club in the future, and selling a top-rated star in the winter window is difficult. There is some interest from Napoli, as per recent reports, as it remains to be seen whether they follow through and make a sizeable bid.

Nkunku has been thinking about an exit from earlier in the season, as the feeling might have grown with a lack of game time in the Premier League. It remains to be seen how Chelsea deal with the situation, as taking into account the nature of the winter window, a temporary move at the very least could be on the cards.
