Napoli, Leicester City, and Fenerbahce are reportedly interested in signing 31-year-old resurgent Manchester United defender Harry Maguire.
According to a report by The Athletic, Harry Maguire is in a complicated situation heading into the January transfer window. While the English defender’s contract with Manchester United contains an optional extension year, it will lapse if he secures a pre-agreement with a foreign club for a Bosman move. Napoli, Leicester City, and Fenerbahce are among his prospective suitors.
The rise, fall, and rise of Harry Maguire
Harry Maguire has embarked on a resurgent run, aiming to become a mainstay at the back again for Manchester United. The Englishman has been one of the most polarising figures for the Red Devils in the past decade, even though he has made his mark more often than not for the Premier League club.
The 31-year-old has turned out over 200 times thus far for Manchester United while chipping in with 12 goals and seven assists. However, Maguire’s long-term future at Old Trafford is uncertain, as he has entered the final seven months of his contract. The situation has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe, including Napoli, Fenerbahce, and Leicester City.
A man in demand
Antonio Conte is eager to reinforce his squad’s defensive unit next year as he looks to transform the Partenopei as a force in Italian football. So, several centre-backs, including Jakub Kiwior, have emerged on Napoli’s radar, with the Serie A giants also setting their sights on Maguire.
Meanwhile, Leicester City’s interest in Harry Maguire is understandable. Manchester United icon Ruud van Nistelrooy has had a positive effect on the Foxes. However, their defensive unit remains a concern, and the resurgent Manchester United defender can transform the backline.
As for Fenerbahce, former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is a long-term admirer, having attempted to sign the Englishman during his spell at Old Trafford. So, it is hardly surprising that Maguire has emerged as a target for Fenerbahce.
However, landing the 31-year-old English international will be a tall order, as Ruben Amorim wants Manchester United to keep hold of the experienced centre-back. So, it will be interesting to see if the foreign clubs can turn the player’s head in the coming days.
