Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka has been linked with a move away from the West London club in recent months.
West Ham United are keen on signing rarely-used Chelsea midfield prospect Carney Chukwuemeka. However, a report from Give Me Sport has claimed that the Hammers are now poised to miss out on the Englishman.
According to the report, Chelsea have set an asking price of around £40 million for the midfielder, and West Ham are unlikely to pay that kind of money for the youngster. It will be interesting to see if they decide to move on to other targets now.
The Hammers need more quality and depth in the middle of the park, and Chukwuemeka would have been a superb long-term investment for them. However, he is yet to prove himself in the Premier League, and the £40 million asking price is simply not justified. It is highly unlikely that any club would be willing to pay that kind of money for him.
Meanwhile, the young midfielder will look to move on in one of the two transfer windows next year. He needs to play regularly at this stage of his career, and sitting on the bench of Chelsea is unlikely to benefit him. If the Blues cannot provide him with game-time assurances, they should let the English midfielder move on in the coming months.
It is evident that Carney Chukwuemeka is not a key part of Chelsea’s first-team plans, and it would not be a surprise if the Blues decide to sell him and replace him with someone who can help them improve.
West Ham need midfield additions
As for West Ham, they need to improve their squad in the coming weeks if they want to do well this season. The Hammers are currently in danger of going down if they continue to falter, and they will need to raise their performance levels over the next few weeks.
Signing the right players will help them bounce back strongly. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops. Chukwuemeka should look to focus on his development and push for an exit from Chelsea if he does not get the necessary game-time assurances in the coming weeks.
