Tottenham considering David Hancko swoop

Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly look to sign 27-year-old versatile Slovakian defender David Hancko from Eredivisie club Feyenoord.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, David Hancko is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The North London giants are scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the January transfer window. So, the 27-year-old Feyenoord defender has emerged as a target for the Premier League outfit.

David Hancko and his Feyenoord journey

David Hancko has been one of the best defenders in the Eredivisie since joining Feyenoord from Sparta Praha in August 2022. A native of Prievidza, the Slovak spent his formative years in his homeland, passing through the academies of three clubs and graduating from the youth division at MSK Zilina.

However, the 27-year-old has risen in prominence during his spell with Feyenoord, going from strength to strength in the last two and a half years. The versatile defender, who can play as a centre-back and a left-back, has turned out over 100 times thus far for the Eredivisie club while chipping in with 14 goals and 12 assists.

Meanwhile, Hancko’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. The summer transfer window witnessed links with well-known Premier League outfits, and the Slovakian international has emerged as a target for Tottenham Hotspur heading into the January transfer window.

London calling?

Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in David Hancko is understandable. The North London giants are scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the January transfer window, as Ange Postecoglou has only three recognised central defenders in his squad. That has hurt Tottenham this season, with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven struggling with fitness issues.

So, several candidates, including Abdukodir Khusanov, have emerged on Tottenham’s radar. However, Hancko is also a viable target, and the Slovak’s versatility makes him an appealing option for the North London outfit. In addition, his price tag has dropped in recent months.

The report has claimed that Feyenoord wanted to recoup £35 million from Hancko’s sale in the summer transfer window. However, the Eredivisie outfit will likely demand a lower sum next month, boosting Tottenham’s prospects of securing the services of the 27-year-old Slovakian international.
