Arsenal will pursue 22-year-old Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoume if they part ways with Thomas Partey in the 2025 summer transfer window.
According to a report by Football Transfers, Lucien Agoume is the subject of interest from Arsenal. The Gunners are scouring the market for a holding midfielder amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Thomas Partey. So, the 22-year-old Sevilla prospect has emerged as a target for the North London club.
Who is Lucien Agoume?
Lucien Agoume has established himself as one of the best young prospects in La Liga since joining Sevilla from Inter Milan. A native of Yaounde, Cameroon, the youngster has represented France in age-group football and spent most of his formative years in the country, graduating from the youth division at FC Sochaux.
Inter Milan signed the 22-year-old in July 2019, but he could not establish a foothold at the Serie A club, managing only four appearances. However, Agoume’s fortunes have turned around since joining Sevilla. Los Nervionenses initially signed the youngster on loan until the end of the 2023/24 season in January before completing a permanent deal worth €4 million in the summer transfer window.
The French youth international has been a regular for Sevilla this season, amassing over 1,000 minutes of game time across 17 appearances in all competitions. Meanwhile, Agoume’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe, including Arsenal.
London calling?
Arsenal’s interest in Lucien Agoume is understandable. The Gunners are scouring the market for a new holding midfielder amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term future of Thomas Partey. While a January departure is not on the cards, he will become a free agent next summer if he does not find common ground with Arsenal on a new contract.
So, Arsenal should invest in a young holding midfielder, especially with Fabio Vieira’s long-term future also uncertain. Agoume has thus emerged as a viable target for the North London outfit, considering his potential and age profile.
Sevilla can potentially make a considerable profit on the €4 million they paid to sign him from Inter Milan earlier this year. It will be interesting to see if the 22-year-old midfielder’s adventure in La Liga will end in the 2025 summer transfer window.
