Manchester City could cash in on Matheus Nunes, Kalvin Phillips in 2025 summer

Matheus Nunes and Kalvin Phillips have been linked with moves away from Manchester United, and the defending champions would be willing to sell them in 2025.

According to a report by Give Me Sport, Manchester City will consider selling Matheus Nunes and Kalvin Phillips at the end of the 2024/25 season, and it remains to be seen whether they can find a potential suitor for the duo.

Matheus Nunes is not been able to live up to the expectations since joining Manchester City, and the Premier League champions need an upgrade on him before they look to part ways with him in the 2025 summer transfer window.

On the other hand, Kalvin Phillips has struggled with injury problems, and his performances have been very underwhelming. The midfielder joined West Ham United on loan in January, while Ipswich Town secured his services in the summer. The Englishman has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot for the newly promoted club as well.

It is evident that Matheus Nunes and Kalvin Phillips need fresh starts, and the move away from Manchester City would be ideal for them as well. Phillips has been linked with a return to his former club Leeds United. They are chasing promotion to the Premier League, and Phillips could be a useful acquisition for them. A return to his comfort zone could bring out the best in him once again.

Manchester City need a midfield rebuild

Manchester City are expected to rebuild their side at the end of the season, and the midfield is an area that is clearly in need of major surgery. They need to bring in a quality alternative to Rodri and bring in upgrades on the likes of Nunes and Phillips. In addition, another young central midfielder to share the workload with Ilkay Gundogan would be ideal.

Manchester City have had a disappointing season by their standards this year, and the midfield is an area that has caused problems for them. It will be interesting to see if they can get rid of their fringe players and bring in the right additions at the end of the season.

Manchester City are unlikely to be able to recoup the kind of money they paid for the two players, and they will have to accept a considerable loss on them. However, it would be wise to cut their losses on the players and move on.
